WalkNorfolk2023: Connecting People with the Countryside
Walk Norfolk 2023 is an access-friendly month of walking events taking place right around the county. Running from 1st October – 31st October 2023 it will feature a wide range of guided walks including biofluorescent night walks, foraging walks, history and heritage walks, nature therapy walks, art walks, and family-friendly events such as minibeast walks.
The majority of the walks will be access friendly and open to all, with many of the walks covering distances of 1 – 4 miles. It will include a first biofluorescent night walk at Blickling Hall, nature and art walks for people with visual impairments, and nature connection and forest bathing events. Walk Norfolk 2023 will also feature 31 daily self-guided walks covering all areas of the county.
The festival will showcase some of the best of Norfolk’s landscapes, characters and communities. A celebration of Norfolk countryside, beaches and urban environments, the 41 events in October take place in locations such as Castle Acre across to Great Yarmouth, with a number taking place in the region’s city hub, Norwich.
Walk Norfolk 2023 is being organised by Pathmakers, a local Norfolk-based charity. Pathmakers are dedicated to improving access to the Norfolk Countryside for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Improving countryside access will enable communities to get outdoors and connect with nature, which in turn will have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.
WalkNorfolk 2023 has received support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Norfolk County Council. A number of organisations have joined up as partners involved with the walks including Norfolk Wildlife Trust, The Broads Authority, RSPB, Norfolk Rivers Trust, The Brecks Fen Edge & Rivers Landscape Partnership Scheme, Reveal Nature, Vision Norfolk, and many others.
Mr. Simon Fowler, Chairman of Pathmakers says “We are delighted to be able to build on the success of last year’s walking festival. We hope that there is something for everyone in this year’s programme and we look forward to welcoming back existing walkers and introducing some new walkers to the Norfolk countryside.“
