Day 2
Distillery Tour

Distillery Tour

You’ll be warmly welcomed at this award-winning distillery and gin school in the heart of historic King’s Lynn.

Behind the handsome 1830s brick frontage on King Street is a Grade II listed 17th century warehouse and merchants’ yard, embodying the town’s proud global trading heritage. Now magnificently converted to a family-run bespoke distillery, it’s a beautiful space with wooden beams, open brick work and gleaming copper stills.

WhataHoot owner Jason will guide you through the building where you’ll learn more about its history and the company’s origins. Generous about sharing his passion for gin, you’ll discover how it’s distilled whilst experiencing the way botanicals give gins their unique flavours. And you’ll see where the famous Royal Estate Sandringham Celebration Gin is produced. A real exclusive as it’s only available to buy from the estate itself, just 8 miles from the distillery.

You’ll finish your tour being treated to a G&T in the delightful Spirit Lounge. Your new knowledge should help you pick out the distinct notes of WhataHoot’s Signature Dry Gin with its refreshing blend of traditional botanicals including juniper, coriander and citrus, perfectly balanced with the iconic Norfolk flavours of sea-samphire and lavender. Seriously smooth!

The hour’s tour gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy your experience, chat to the staff, ask questions and learn more about gin making. And you even get 10% off in the Pantry shop! Cheers!

Bullard’s Gin Experience

Bullard’s Gin Experience

The Bullards name is synonymous with the heritage of Norwich. Across six generations the fortunes of Norfolk’s esteemed drinks producer have risen, fallen and revived again in line with the curious vagaries of history. The story of this iconic Norwich company is one of hard work, reinvention, evolution and the strength of family. And it’s best heard from Bullards themselves.

Ideal for G&T lovers, a Bullards gin journey distils generations of knowledge into a rich sensory experience. You’ll discover tasting techniques whilst enjoying the botanical flavours and aromas that give gin its essence, rounding things off with a refreshing Gin and Tonic. Cheers!

Bullards’ fascinating heritage is woven through its drinks, from the names of the gin to the shape of the bottle, modelled on the Bullards chimney, a famous Norfolk landmark. The company is now leading the way in innovative environmental practices such as eco-pouches delivered by good old Royal Mail. This is a local business that’s truly earned its trademarked strapline ‘the spirit of Norwich’.

30-40 botanicals are used across the five Bullards gins, each botanical telling its own story of Norfolk’s nature, spirit and variety. Yet perhaps a sense of place is most poetically expressed by the Coastal Gin, flavoured with sustainably foraged local seasonal ingredients such as samphire, wild fennel, sea purslane, sea aster and Douglas fir pine. Its delicate salty tang is alight with bright citrus like sunshine dancing on the water – and on the palate! Truly the taste of Norfolk.

Day 4
Evening Gin on the Steam Train

Evening Gin on the Steam Train

The Orient Express may have been a grand European hotel on rails. But a North Norfolk gin palace on rails is less snooty and rather easier on the pocket! Plus it comes with ice buckets of quirky charm you won’t find anywhere else in the world. So get your glad rags on and hop aboard the North Norfolk Railway Gin Train! Riding an historic steam train, every mile of railroad track takes you back to a slower age when people made time for glamour. Relax into a First Class seat, reserved specially for you, and savour a collection of premium gins as you rock gently from fashionable old seaside resort of Sheringham to the elegant Georgian town of Holt and back. This luxurious gin experience is a real tonic!

The nostalgic Gin Train features five specially chosen gins, served as your steam train makes its sentimental journey between Sheringham to Holt. Don’t you just love the clink and fizz of the evening’s first drink? Yours is a gin cocktail, served on arrival before taking your seat in a first-class dining carriage ready for departure. A generous mezze board of delicious cold meats and cheeses provides a stylish accompaniment your drinks. While your conversation sparkles, sip three contrasting gins, each served with a mixer to bring out the beautifully balanced botanicals. To keep things sweet, follow that with luscious homemade cheesecake (infused with gin of course!). Round off the evening with a gin liqueur. What a swell party this is!
