Norfolk-Tours

Researching family history is a journey through time. If you’re inspired by programmes like Who Do Think You Are? you’ll love this day long experience. It’s packed with advice for investigating your own ancestry using resources including the heritage surrounding us today.

Glynn Burrows is a local historian and expert genealogist. This tour is based around the historic market town of Swaffham but can be tailored to suit specific group requirements. You’ll learn how to pick up clues about the people who lived in an area by visiting the parish church. Next you’ll head to a pretty nearby village to buy a good Norfolk lunch! Afterwards, Glen will take you on a walk, explaining how reading buildings and landscapes can unlock the past. You’ll explore the magnificent earthworks of a Norman Castle and ruins of a Medieval priory while investigating the features hinting at how their residents might have lived. Your adventure ends with a hot drink and delicious home-made scones.

Websites are useful, but actually visiting the places your forebears knew can be intensely emotional. Seeing where long dead relatives worshipped, wandering the lanes they walked or having a pint in their local pub establishes a personal connection to the past, giving new power to stories of social, political and cultural change through the prism of our very own families.

Depending on location, historic buildings aren’t always fully accessible but with advance notice Glynn’s happy to include visitors with mobility or sensory requirements.
