Ever wondered what it’s like to sit inside a tank? Head to the Norfolk Tank Museum for a real hands-on experience!
One of the UK’s best collections of military vehicles, amid weapons and militaria (mainly 20th century and Cold War) you’ll see Deborah II, the replica Mk IV Tank from Channel 4 documentary ‘Guy Martin’s WWI Tank’ plus artillery, uniforms, and an extensive collection of British small arms. Guided by enthusiastic and knowledgable volunteers, wherever possible you’ll get the chance to handle the exhibits. You can even climb inside a Chieftain Main Battle Tank and a Saladin Armoured Scout Car to really get a feel for the confined space of the crew turret. Usually the Centurion tanks (an AVRE; a Mk13 Gun Tank and an ARV) are on static display but at can be seen rolling into action at events during the year. Weather permitting you can enjoy a white-knuckle ride over the off-road course in the ‘Hagglunds BV206 All Terrain Vehicle’, a fully amphibious, articulated, tracked all-terrain vehicle designed for the Swedish Army to use in Arctic conditions.
You can relax with a coffee and light snack in the friendly café. Fab bacon butties and a good pot of tea! All the buildings and toilets have disabled access and disabled visitors have dedicated parking spaces – just don’t turn up in your own tank! For a truly personal experience, the Museum offers Tank Experience Gift Vouchers. And group visits are easily arranged too.
