The sound and scent of green wood working has been part of human experience for thousands of years, rooted in all cultures. It dovetails the practical and sensual, a joyfully simple antidote to life’s unsettling abstractions.
Robert is a green wood worker who crafts functional, beautiful objects from wood in its purest form. A gentle teacher, he’ll share his skills, knowledge and passion with patience and enthusiasm. On the whole day course he’ll show you how to turn a humble log into a spoon you can take home and enjoy for years! You’ll also learn how to make chopsticks as Robert introduces you to knife skills you can transfer to future carving projects. Robert provides all the hand tools needed for the processes you’ll learn. His workshops have been shared with with people of all ages and backgrounds, including children at festivals and groups of refugees. They’re a great opportunity to meet with people, slow down, learn a new craft and leave with a sense of accomplishment and wellbeing.
Robert spends half his week working alongside a forester in North Norfolk, helping manage local woodlands sustainably. All the wood you’ll use is sourced from these woods and their eco-friendly practice mean the objects you make have zero impact on the environment!
Learning through doing is immensely satisfying, with body and mind working together. This sense of connectedness extends further, to the quiet pleasure of working alongside each other in companionable peace.
