Dine out in style, gently rolling through the Norfolk dusk as stars begin to shine. Step aboard the North Norfolkman dining train for a truly First-Class meal, as you steam through woods and fields, past the sandy golf course and onwards where the view unfolds to the distant horizons of the sea. The North Norfolkman is a luxury dining train running on select Saturday evenings throughout the year. Before dinner, sip a local beer or cider, and then relax in a delightfully comfortable dining car, built for British Railways in the 1950s or 60s. (Don’t worry, this evening’s food will be considerably more delicious than the old school British Rail sandwich!) Restored interiors of glossy varnished wood take you back to the railways’ golden age, as does the distinctive upholstery moquette, characteristic of a gentler era.
Your train rocks smoothly from Sheringham to Holt and back, as you gaze at some of England’s finest coastal panoramas and savour a delicious meal, freshly prepared and cooked onboard. Drinks from the carefully curated wine list are served at your seat and the train takes its time, so you can enjoy an unhurried evening. Plumes of steam drift past the window and good conversation fills the carriage. This is slow travel at its finest.
Dining is seriously popular, so early booking is essential, especially for a special anniversary, birthday or milestone moment. Vegetarian and other dietary requirements are happily catered for, just make sure you arrange them at the time of booking.
