Drive a Norfolk Diesel Train

Drive a Norfolk Diesel Train

North Norfolk Railway

‘Faster than fairies, faster than witches!’ Remember the evocative Robert Louis Stevenson rhyme ‘From a Railway Carriage’? If you love trains, nothing beats the thrill of driving one yourself! So step into the shoes of a train driver. The Diesel Driver experience gives you the opportunity to be at the controls of a heritage diesel train for a memorable journey on the picturesque railway between Sheringham and Holt. You’ll get a taste of being a secondman and of driving a powerful diesel locomotive (on its own, without the train of coaches) for the 11 mile trip. You’ll switch between being a secondman and driving, spending 5.5 miles doing each and learning about the workings of the engine and the railway under the expert guidance of a fully qualified crew.

The Bronze Experience is offered on several dates throughout the year. Two people can be accommodated each day and you’ll receive a day travel pass enabling you to travel on the railway earlier the same day. The Silver Experience gives you the chance to make two complete round trips over the full length of this scenic line, working one of the magnificently restored diesel locomotives. On one trip you’ll drive, and be secondman for the other, spending 11 miles doing each. You’ll learn all about the workings of the engine and the operation of this delightful coastal railway. This package is offered on several dates throughout the year, taking two participants and their guests on each half-day journey. Let’s roll!
