Journey to the gateway of the Norfolk Broads National Park by the most sustainable transport around – your feet! Or spin along on a bike. The Bure Valley Path is nice and flat, making it an accessible day out for all kinds of wheels. And it’s dog-friendly! It’s an easy 9 miles from the delightful market town of Aylsham to Wroxham where jolly boats jostle for space along picturesque moorings. Or combine an energetic cycle ride with another kind of puffing, and hop on a little train for a heritage railway adventure. This lovely path runs parallel to the quaint narrow-gauge Bure Valley Railway, once a Great Eastern Railway track. This industrial past is celebrated by local artisans, with specially designed gates, arches, station signs and fencing, all inspired by the heritage of the Great Eastern Railway.
The Bure Valley Path meets Marriott’s Way and Weavers’ Way at Aylsham, then follows the former Great Eastern Railway route to Hoveton and Wroxham. There are several stops along the way so you can jump on and off or cycle all the way to the Broads and then relax on the train back (bicycle spaces subject to availability). Or continue your cycle ride via Marriott’s Way or Weavers’ Way, also disused railway line cycle routes from Aylsham.
Prefer to keep boots on the ground? There are five new circular walks off the main Bure Valley Path, giving you the chance to explore Oxnead, Buxton, Coltishall, Belaugh and Hoveton. Full steam ahead!
