Board a wooden Norfolk crab boat at Wells-next-the-Sea and it’s your choice whether to sail east to Blakeney and Cley or west past pale sand and dark pines towards Burnham Overy Staithe and Brancaster.
Surrender to the racing sky, out in fresh sea air where views are never the same twice, constantly rewritten by light playing across the water and limitless horizons. Ride the wind surrounded by Norfolk’s stunning coastal scenery of winding creeks, wild salt marsh and shifting sand banks. You’re in the hands of first class sailors who know how to read the landscape of this restless world, out among centuries of samphire and shells, listening to curlews and lilt of lapping waves.
Leave at the start of the tide and sail until the pause before it turns. Take an hour to wrap your hands round a hot drink and tuck into a lovingly made, locally sourced meal, which may include a delicious cooked breakfast, artisan sourdough, Norfolk cheeses, homemade pies, hot soup, freshly baked cakes and other treats depending on the time of day.
If you head towards Cley or Blakeney you’ll see the seals at Blakeney Point, or go west past beautiful Scolt Head Island. Both take around 3-4 hours.
You don’t need any sailing experience so you can either drive the boat and handle the sails or just sit back and relax! Your hosts will get you safely back to Wells in the Land Rover, which takes about 30 minutes.
